"March of the Penguins"

Me and Kitty saw this movie today as an afternoon delight, er, matinee. She had been wanting to see it for months, and so today we finally went. I tried to dissuade her by offering "The Constant Gardener" as an alternative.

"What's it rated," she asked?

"'R' for'Rowdy,'" I said.

"What's it about?"

[ Reading ] "In a remote area of Northern Kenya, activist Tessa Quayle (Rachel Weisz) is found brutally murdered. Tessa's companion, a doctor, appears to have fled the scene, and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Members of the British High Commission in Nairobi assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered and unambitious colleague Justin."

"I don't know?"

"Well, Kitty, you like gardening, and you really liked that movie 'The Interpreter.' It dealt with Africa and intrigue. You enjoyed Nicole Kidman's riveting performance."

My ploy worked but the timing was bad. "Constant" was available for viewing at 3:25 and the next one wasn't til 7:25. That nixed that and "Penguins" it was. With Morgan Freeman providing the narration.

We bought the obligatory popcorn and our two cokes-one diet and one regular, heavy on the caffeine.

If you haven't read the reviews: "In the Antarctic, every March since the beginning of time, the quest begins to find the perfect mate and start a family. This courtship will begin with a long journey -- a journey that will take them hundreds of miles across the continent by foot, in freezing cold temperatures, in brittle, icy winds and through deep, treacherous waters. They will risk starvation and attack by dangerous predators, under the harshest conditions on earth, all to find true love."

I couldn't help but think of parallels to the New Orleans/Biloxi tragedy. And there are many.
