"God Bless Jerry Lewis"

I watched the end of Jerry Lewis' telethon tonite, because I always forget that it's on. The grand take was 52 million and change when it went off the air. Ed McMahon was there, as usual, and looked no worse for wear since he must be at least 100 years old. Jerry looked good and cried while singing his obligatory finale. I always mist up a bit myself at his rendition.

As a kid I loved Jerry. I was a bit young to remember Dino and Jerry as tag-team partners but have seen those old movies many a time. In "Family Jewels" Jerry directed, wrote the screenplay, and played 7 different characters. I saw it at the drive-in [ back in the day ] and it is one of the few movies where I literally laughed from beginning to end. The French have always been enamored of his work and consider him a genius. At 79 and in bad health recently, perhaps this is his last telethon, which he has hosted for 50 years. What a tradition, eh? Hopefully, they can continue for another 50. Unlikely since Ed would be 150 plus. God bless, Jerry and Ed. And thanks to them for some memorable memories.

I watched the end, too. Never miss it. And I always mist up at his rendition. Jerry Lewis was my favorite as a kid, also. Just another thing we have in common. I'll bet if you had played in the band, you would have played trombone too. Just a hunch...
