"Wait Until Dark"

Number 10: "Wait Until Dark." There are 2 scary moments in this movie. One when Jack Weston [ to the left of Ms. Hepburn in this scene ] is pummelled repeatedly against a chain-link fence by an automobile. Me and my sister, Olga, ventured to San Fran, circa '67, and did what we both love to do and that is/was catch a movie. And this is the one we saw. Wonder if she remembers? I went to sleep in the theatre but suddenly woke up when a car's two headlights were heading my way and running over Mr. Weston. The other scary scene was at the end of the movie [ duh, really ] when Alan Arkin jumps out at Ms. Hepburn after she stabs him. And there was another one, as well, as we delve further into the memory banks. When Richard Crenna is standing by Audrey's door saying his goodbyes to her after repenting, no longer wanting to be a bad guy-he wants to wear a white hat now. Seems he doesn't want the heroin or the money after all. A wee bit late as Alan Arkin stabs him from behind. No wonder it was rated "Number 10" by BravoTV.  Posted by Picasa

I never saw the movie, but I did see the play.
Even with an amateur cast and a community theatre that moment is guaranteed to make the audience jump in their seats.
I still remember it as one of the most effective pieces of stagecraft I have ever seen.
Brilliant.
