Characters of Baseball

I collected baseball cards as a kid. They came in packs that you could buy at the drug store. With the obligatory thick, er, hard as a brick stick of bubble gum. They were on the back of Post Toasties and Raisin Bran. And even in packages of Kahn's Hot Dogs.

I have been a fan since I was nine years old, even tho there's been some disappointments. One was when me and Ronnie Weaver were watching the "Game of the Week" on National T.V. with Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese. Our hero, Dick Groat, was playing shortstop. A wicked grounder took a bad hop and hit our main man in the throat, causing his cap to fly off.

Me and Ronnie were devestated. Our hero was mortal after all. Dick was as bald as Mr. Clean and Kojak. Well, almost. He had the Bozo look be4 the Bozo look was cool.

Here we go with the "Characters of Baseball." Well, some of 'em anyway.

Gimme shelter, v.c.
