When I was a kid and went to McDonald's, they offered:
1) Coke
2) Root beer
3) Orange
4) Strawberry, Vanilla, Chocolate Milk Shakes
The coke and rootbeer were housed in big Bavarian kegs; the orange swished around in a big glass bowl, and the shakes were put on a spindle, after squirting the flavour and filling it with ice cream.
Now Dr. Pepper offers Diet Vanilla Cherry Dr. Pepper.
As the old ad for Va. Slims used to say: "You've come a long way, baby."
P.S. Who'd a thunk it?

That's true. And a burger, fries, and a small Coke cost 57 cents.

"Sea Dad," was one of my mgrs. when I worked at the "Happy Place," long before the advent of Ronald McDonald.
ReplyDelete"But 'Sea Dad,' why do I have to clean the shitters?"
"We all take turns cleaning the shitters, v.c."
I swear I had a manager named Harry Cox. He was a rough and tough hombre. You took your life in your own hands if you questioned the origin of his name.
Allah, " a boy named Sue."
My beginning pay: $1.00 per hour.
Fries: 10 cents
Hamburgers: 12 cents
Fab 4 Album: $2.97
Cleaning the shitters: Priceless!
Yep, another brick in the stall, as you say. My first mgr, was a hard-ass too. He was into the job, big-time. Even when he was off, he would park up on a hill next to the Happy Place, with his binoculars, and watch us (night-shift) as we labored away. Here's a coupla names u might remember from Rowdy High, that were 2 of my "swing managers" when I worked there... Bobby McClendon, might have been in your graduating class?, and Walter Banks, played cornet in band, but was 1 year younger than I, so u might not remember him. This was the Micky D's on Stewart Ave, near Shakee's Pizza, 72 Lanes bowling alley, Funtown, etc. I'm guessing you worked across from the fed pen.?
ReplyDeleteI did too, later on.
